International Air Cargo Association: The global air cargo industry will face unprecedented challenges in the fourth quarter

TIACA pointed out that the industry is already under pressure due to lack of belly tank capacity, model changes caused by shipping issues, unpredictable supply chain worker covid restrictions and active markets, and as demand further increases in the peak season of the fourth quarter, this The situation is expected to deteriorate further.

At the same time, some PAX aircraft used for cargo operations are turning to passenger transportation to meet the growing demand in this field.

Therefore, TIACA urges governments to quickly approve interim charter permits and consider supporting the Seventh Freedom regime that is implementing these permits. In addition, countries are urged to work with industry representatives to identify potential system blockages in advance so that they can be resolved before they further affect the supply chain.

In particular, air cargo companies, freight forwarders and shippers should take measures to prepare for the surge in demand.

TIACA said: "As a matter of urgency," high-efficiency tools such as enhanced data sharing must also be adopted. Contingency plans must be developed to deal with all the possibilities that may arise. The key to success is planning and communication.

Steven Polmans, head of TIACA, said: In the past 18 months, air cargo has played a vital role. In the face of a record-breaking fourth quarter, planning must now begin. We should be proud of the innovative, agile and flexible methods that the industry has adopted in the past 18 months, and now as customer expectations increase, we must actively respond to these new challenges.
